Lakeville Rotary Scholarship Reflections
Outgoing Lakeville Rotary Club president reflects on the highlight of his year.
Reflection is a good thing to do every now and then. It can be affirming and humbling at the same time, it seems. As I approach the end of my term as president of The Lakeville Rotary Club, I am reminded of one particular recent highlight in a year of many. A couple weeks ago, I was privileged, on behalf of the Club, to present scholarships to a few deserving high school seniors at both Lakeville North and Lakeville South. As I sat up on the stage with the other award presenters, I looked out into the audience to see the faces of our future leaders. In each instance, there before me were the superstars of academics, arts, athletics and so much more. They are the people who will lead our communities, corporations, military and hospitals. They will build things we haven’t even thought of yet! They will develop ideas into action, dreams into reality. They will manage small businesses, families and little league teams. They will push jets through the sound barrier and strollers through the mall. And, hopefully, they will remember to place, as we say in Rotary, “Service Above Self.”
As a club, this year, we invested $21,000.00 into these deserving high school seniors in the form of scholarships. (We support a variety of other K-12 school programs, too.) We do so happily and with great expectation of a disproportionately greater return to our community. It is truly Lakeville Rotary’s pleasure to support these wonderful young people and it was a highlight of my year as Club President to shake each recipient’s hand and wish them well. Kudos to you parents, too!
