What the heck is a QR Code?
Many advertisements in magazines/newpapers along with marketing use the QR Codes. You can easily make your own!
You may have seen an odd square with black dots (see photos) in magazines, printed advertisements and marketing. This strange box is a called a QR (quick response) code. This code has been used in Japan for years where it was created in 1994. Occassionally us Americans tend to be a little behind in the technology department or at least slower to adapt it into the mainstream.
QR codes are a two dimensional code that has embedded information like an UPC or barcode but has the capability of containing much more information such as a link to a website, texting, photos, phone number and/or wording can be embedded within a QR code. The code can be posted online, printed on T-shirts, paper, etc. The sky is the limit with QR codes. Most newer smartphones have the capability of reading a QR code but of course you would need to install an application (typically free) to your phone. I have a Galaxy S 4G phone through T-Mobile which runs on the Android system. The typical QR reader app for the Android phone and the one I use is QR Droid. The app is slick to run as all you need to do is point your smartphone camera lens at the code and your phone will read it while the QR reader application is running. Then whatever the code has embedded will be displayed on your smartphone. If your phone is able to do so, there are some sample QR codes displayed in the photograph section that you can scan to see what the code is all about and how they work.
I have been using QR codes for my marketing awhile now and have received a great response from them. I have put in my website address that will automatically bring up my homepage to using SMS texting that allows anyone that has scanned the QR code to text me with a specific message. You can make your own QR code at Kaywa and other great sites. Have fun with the QR codes and use it to market yourself or business.
