But the Poster Only Cost 5 Bucks!

At almost five and a half feet wide, this poster of Michael Jordan is still only about three quarters of life size. But it is big enough to span the length of a sofa and it definitely makes an impact when you stare young Michael in the face. Perhaps to emphasize just how long this poster is, it was printed so that the ball and Michael's fingertips reach all the way to the edges. Even the title "wings" is printed so that it starts and ends right at the edges.

If you are decorating with poster art, size does matter, especially in getting the poster framed. While framing materials - things like mats, foam board, and glass - come in large sizes, there is a pretty significant price jump with each size increase. While most posters are relatively inexpensive, some people suffer sticker shock when it comes to framing one just because they are so darned big. Once you go over 40" long you are in dangerous territory. Over 60" - be prepared for a serious strategic discussion on how to do your project.

But there are some tricks. Glass or acrylic are the common materials used to protect artwork. Often this is the most expensive part of a poster framing project. But an alternative is a protective laminate finish. It can be far less expensive and it has other advantages. It is lighter so you won't have to worry about heavy duty wall anchors to hold your frame. It does not reflect glare like glass. It can be cleaned with water just like glass. It is extremely durable. It won't break like glass or scratch easily like acrylic. What's not to like? You wouldn't want to put it on a piece of investment art because it is permanent. But for a mass produced poster it can really work great.
