Cedar Avenue Closure Planned This Weekend

Driving north on Cedar Avenue on Friday night and Saturday morning could get a bit messy.

The intersection of Cedar and 147th Street is set to close from 9 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Saturday because the intersection is scheduled to be paved.

Here is an update on Cedar Avenue construction from the Dakota County website:

Cedar Avenue – 155th Street/Whitney Drive to south of Upper 136th Street
Paving the final layer of asphalt on Cedar Avenue from 155th Street/Whitney Drive to south of Upper 136th Street and on adjacent side streets will continue through mid-June, weather permitting. Lane closures and some intersection closures will be necessary to complete this work. Signal systems may be on flashing red (all-way stop). Expect major delays. Areas remaining to be paved include:
• Cedar Avenue – 155th Street/Whitney Drive to south of 147th Street (all lanes)
• County Road 42 (150th Street) – east and west of Cedar Avenue (all lanes)
• 147th Street – east and west of Cedar Avenue (all lanes)
• 145th Street – east and west of Cedar Avenue (all lanes)
• 153rd Street – east and west of Cedar Avenue (all lanes)
• 155th Street/Whitney Drive – east and west of Cedar Avenue (all lanes)

Cedar Avenue at 147th Street
The intersection of Cedar Avenue at 147th Street is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 7 until 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, weather permitting, to pave the intersection. Traffic will need to follow the posted detour.

Cedar Avenue at County Road 42 (150th Street)
The intersection of Cedar Avenue at County Road 42 (150th Street) is tentatively scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 14 until 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, weather permitting, to pave the intersection. Traffic will need to use alternate routes.

Cedar Avenue & Side Streets
Temporary lane closures may occur on northbound and southbound Cedar Avenue from 155th Street/Whitney Drive to south of Upper 136th Street and on side streets in this area. These closures may be necessary to complete concrete work, landscaping, irrigation installation, adjusting structures and gate valves, and milling prior to paving.

Sidewalk closures
The sidewalks along Cedar Avenue between 140th Street and 157th Street may be closed during construction. Please follow the posted detours.

Speed limits may be reduced in the work zone. Please don’t go around barriers into construction zones.

Temporary lane closures
After paving is complete, temporary lane closures may be needed for miscellaneous work and repairs prior to project completion in July. These closures may occur throughout the entire project area, except during the following times:
• Northbound Cedar Avenue – morning rush hour
• Southbound Cedar Avenue – afternoon rush hour
