Lakeville Council to Hear Liquor Study Report

School Board also active this week. Closed sessions also on schedule for both entities.

The Lakeville City Council and Lakeville School Board both have an active week of meetings scheduled. Closed sessions are scheduled for both entities to discuss sensitive issues concerning each and important reports highlight the open meetings.

Lakeville City Council

The City Council will meet for a work session this evening beginning at 6 p.m. in the Marion Conference Room at . The Phase I results from the will be presented during the session.

The council has been weighing the pros and cons of Lakeville’s municipal liquor store operation—an operation that contributes more than $1 million to city coffers each year—and the initial report conducted by Minneapolis-based Shenehon Company will help determine whether to proceed to the second phase of the study.

The initial report Monday will examine the economic positives as well as possible negatives on commercial development and other factors.

The City Council will also convene Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to enter into a closed executive session to discuss a performance review of Senior Center Coordinator Linda Walter. Mayor Mark Bellows stated during last Monday’s city council meeting that about unspecified aspects surrounding the repurposing of the city’s vacant police station into the Heritage Center.

City officials and Walter have not commented on the issue since the meeting and the matter is being treated as a private personnel issue. It’s unclear what Walter is alleged to have misrepresented or what impact any alleged misrepresentations may have had on the project or its approval by the council.

Lakeville Area Public Schools

The School Board will hold a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the .

Among the agenda items are an updated presentation on the proposed 2012 tax levy and a report by new superintendent Dr. Lisa Snyder concerning the strategic direction and quality indicators for the district.

The school board will also have a closed session at 5 p.m. prior to the regular meeting to discuss the ongoing teacher contract negotiations.
