Lakeville Fire Department Talks Microwave Oven Safety

Department responded to 21 calls for service the week of Jan. 30 through Feb. 6.

Injuries caused by microwave ovens involve more emergency room visits than any other cooking device. Be safe by following these safety tips:

  • Heat food in containers only intended for microwave use.
  • Open food slowly. Hot steam escaping from the container can cause painful burns.
  • Never use aluminum foil or metal objects in a microwave oven.
  • If a fire should start inside the oven, leave the door closed, disconnect the power cord, if safe to do so, and call 911.

By the Numbers

During the week of Jan. 30, through Feb. 6, the Lakeville Fire Department responded to 21 calls for service, including one mulch fire, six motor vehicle accidents, four with injuries, one medical call, one vehicle accident cleanup, ten false alarms and two good intent calls.
