Grilling Season has Lakeville Fire Talking Barbecue Safety

Lakeville Fire Department responded to 12 calls for service the week of March 19 to March 25.

Fire Prevention Tip

Backyard grilling season is here…

  • Follow these fire safety tips to make sure your next barbecue doesn't go up in flames.
  • Before using, position your grill at least 3 feet away from other objects, including the house and any shrubs or bushes.
  • Only use starter fluid made for barbecue grills when starting a fire in a charcoal grill.
  • Operate charcoal grills only outdoors, never inside an enclosed area. Even if you've finished grilling, and you assume all the coals are extinguished, they're still producing carbon monoxide, so keep your charcoal grills outside at all times.
  • Charcoal ashes can stay hot for days, so keep the ashes out of the plastic garbage cans.
