Lakeville North Golfers Take Sixth At State Golf

The Lakeville North boys golf team finished up its run at the Class AAA state meet on Wednesday with a sixth place finish at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.

The Panthers followed up a 311 finish on the first day of competition by dropping four strokes on Day 2 and securing a 618 team finish at the state tournament. Wayzata and Rogers shared the Class AAA crown, each shooting a 592 for the tournament.

North’s Bobby Thomas led the way, shooting a 152 to tie for 23rd overall at state. Freddy Thomas finished in 28th place overall with a 153, and Adam Petterson finished tied for 31st overall with a 154.Trey Heid finished tie for 54th with a 162, and Joel OXton took 60th overall with a 163.

At Lakeville South, sophomore Justin Doeden tied Freddy Thomas for 28th place overall, firing a 153 for the two-day tournament. His teammate, Brandon Mader, finished tied for 36th overall with a 155 total score.

Forest Lake’s Max Kelly won the individual state championship on Wednesday, shooting a 143 to win the tournament.

On the girls side, Lakeville South senior Ellen Rager finished the tournament in 66th place. She shot a 188 during the two-day tournament.

Cretin-Derham Hall freshman Celia Kuenster and Stillwater Area’s Cassie Deeg finished tied for first place on Wednesday with a 148. On the team side, Wayzata won the state championship by shooting a 661. Stillwater finished second with a 668 team score.
