Lakeville South Tumbles To Burnsville in Legion Baseball

Seven-run fifth inning dooms Lakeville South Cougars in 12-3 loss to Burnsville Thursday

The Burnsville Cobras roughed up the Lakeville South Cougars for 12 runs on 12 hits in a 12-3 regular season league finale in American Legion baseball Thursday evening at Alimagnet Park.

Bursnville led 5-0 after two innings, but the Cougars got back into the game with a run in e third and two more in the fourth and trailed just 5-3.

That all changed in a hurry in the fifth inning as the Cobras struck for seven runs to put the game away. The Cobras sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning and scored in just about every way possible. The Cobras had six hits, seven RBI, two walks, a sacrifice, scored on an error and had one batter hit by a pitch in the inning.

Burnsville pitcher Bo Hellquist went the distance and gave up three runs on six hits.

Brian Vanderwoude went 2-for-3 with a home run and Luke Chinn had three singles to lead the Burnsville hitters.

Garrett Delich had two singles and two walks and Mitch Jans went 2-for-3 to lead Lakeville South.

Burnsville improved to 24-5 on the season and 12-2 in league play, finishing in first place in the conference.   

Lakeville South hosts St. Paul Park Friday night at  6 p.m.

Burnsville plays Lakeville North Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Edina Tournament.
