Lakeville South Wins, Sets Up Rematch With North

The football team defeated Rochester Mayo by a 35-7 margin on Tuesday in the Section 1AAAAA quarterfinal in Rochester.

The win sets up a rematch with in the section semifinals on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at North.

The two teams met on Oct. 7 as unbeaten teams. The Panthers won that matchup 30-7 and gave the Cougars the first of two straight losses—South lost hte next week to Prior Lake.

But South has now won two straight and is set to take on its crosstown rival again—this time for a trip to the section championship.

On Tuesday, Mitch Leidner connected for two touchdown passes—one to Trent Bertamus and another to Devon Bzoskie. Austin Britnell and Chris Moore each had touchown runs, and Bertamus scored on a 12-yard fumble return in the third quarter.

The Cougars had a 29-0 lead before Mayo scored its first touchdown in the third quarter.

With the win, South improved to 7-2 on the season. Mayo ends the year with a 6-3 record.
