Lakeville’s Fire Department Offers Ways to Prevent Oven Fires
Department responded to 11 calls for service the week of March 13 through March 20.

Fires caused by ovens are preventable by following the tips below:
- Turn off stoves as soon as you are finished using them.
- Unplug electrical appliances when they are not in use.
- Wipe appliance surfaces after spills and clean stove tops and ovens regularly; built-up grease catches on fire.
- Do not cook if you have been drinking alcohol or if you are drowsy. Studies show that 42% of people who have died in cooking fires were asleep.
- Check the inside of your oven before turning it on to make sure there is nothing that can catch on fire or melt.
By the Numbers
During the week of March 20, through March 27, the Lakeville Fire Department responded to 11 calls for service, including one gas leak, three medical calls, two motor vehicle accidents including one with injuries, four false alarms and one good intent call.
