Lakeville's Fire Department Talks Signs of Heat Exhaustion

Lakeville Fire responded to 18 calls for service the week of June 19 to July 3.

Extreme temperatures can cause serious, potentially fatal health problems.

Early warning signs of heat exhaustion include decreased energy, slight loss of appetite, faintness, light–headedness and nausea. People with these symptoms should seek a cool place, drink fluids, remove excess clothing and rest.

Signs that require immediate medical attention include unconsciousness, rapid heartbeat, throbbing headache, dry skin, chest pain, confusion, irritability, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, staggering and difficulty breathing.

Dial 911, move the person to a cool area, remove excess clothing, then spray the person with water and fan the person until help arrives.

From June 19, 2011 to July 3, 2011 the Lakeville Fire Department responded to 18 calls for service including one structure fire, one outside trash fire, one contained trash fire, three medical calls, one vehicle accident-general cleanup, seven false alarms, and four good intent calls.
