Learn the Rules for Recreational Fires

Lakeville Fire Department responded to 30 calls for service the week of April 23 through 29.

Fire Prevention Tip

Recreation fires are allowed in the City of Lakeville when the following provisions are followed:

• The fire is contained to a 3x3x3 area; this can be in ground, on ground, or in a free-standing pre- manufactured fireplace

• Fire extinguisher, garden hose or sand must be readily accessible

• Only clean burning wood or charcoal (you may not burn leaves, brush, grass, tree branches, building/construction materials, rubbish etc.)

• The fire must be at least twenty-five (25) feet away from any combustible structure (house, deck, fence, shed)

• Adult supervision is required while having a recreational fire

• All fires must be extinguished by 12:00 a.m. (midnight)

• Not allowed if winds exceed 15 m.p.h.

• If anyone calls and complains about the smoke, you will be asked to extinguish the fire

• All fires are subject to discontinuance by the Fire or Police Department.

Fire report 

From April 23 to April 29, the  responded to 15 calls for service; 3 medical, 4 motor vehicle accidents (with injuries), 1 mulch fire, 1 gas leak, 1 overheated motor, 3 good intents and 2 false alarms.
