Minnesota United Thrash Indy Eleven 5-1.

Electrifying goals push United to the top of the table.

NASL Spring Champions Minnesota United took on last place Indy Eleven in a North American Soccer League regular season game Saturday Night at NSC stadium in Blaine.

Minnesota United opened the scoring after a Jamie Watson shot fell to Aaron Pitchkolan who buried his shot in the 25th minute.

United never looked back and doubled their lead in the 37’ when Christian Ramirez chested it to himself and finished with a Wayne Rooney esque bicycle kick. Christians teammate Jamie Watson said he was just a fan watching Christian pull off bicycle kicks, “I’m glad there were no camera’s around because the things I was yelling at him from behind was a lot of excited cuss words.” “In ten years of professional soccer I have never been in a game where a teammate or an opponent has scored from a bicycle kick.”

Even after the shoe in “goal of the week” MNU rubbed salt in the wounds of Indy when Daniel Mendes scores in stoppage time of the first half gracefully chipping the ball over the GK Kristian Nicht.

Just because the first half ended didn’t mean the scoring did for Minnesota. Midfielder Jamie Watson got in behind the defense in the 53’ and coolly finished his first goal of the season to make the lead 4-0 United. Watson on his first goal this season “I’ve been wanting to do well for the team for a long time now and it just hasn’t gone in. “But I can’t take any credit (for the goal) its all Kevin Venegas’s ball, he did the hard part, I did the easy part.”

United weren’t done and Christian Ramirez added his second of the night with a professional finish to make the Minnesota tally 5.

Jose Kleberson had the last word of the night, an afterthought goal that took away the MNU shutout.

At the end of the night however it was Minnesota United who came out victorious 5 to 1 over Indy Eleven. The win puts United at least temporarily at the top of the Fall NASL table on 16 points while current second placeholders San Antonio play tomorrow against Ottawa.

After the victory tonight United are undefeated in their last ten games and in prime position to win the Fall Championship. Postgame Head Coach Manny Lagos said “I think it was a great night for the club and the team, certainly a lot to talk about.” “We want to enjoy tonight, and get ready for next week.”
