Patch Picks: 5 Unique Class Offerings

Learn a new hobby or brush up on some skills to help you improve yourself with these fun and informative offerings from the Lakeville Area School Community Education program.

The program just came out for their fall and winter programs. There are plenty of opportunities being offered for adults of all ages, shapes and sizes that can help you sharpen your noggin or provide a lifelong hobby. Some classes can just be an excuse to socialize and have fun. We took a look through the scheduled classes and picked our favorites.

Beginning Belly Dance: It’s not just for the Renaissance Festival anymore. Belly dancing is a great way to gain flexibility and balance, and it’s great entertainment as well. Students will learn Middle Eastern techniques and yes, you get to use the finger cymbals (zills) while you dance. Classes are offered Wednesdays from Sept. 21 to Nov. 16. Cost is $99.00.

Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement: Who couldn’t use a course to help stash a little cash away? This three-class course on Thursdays in November will look at making the most of investments and tax laws to help create a plan that will help make your golden years bright. Cost is $49.00.

Dog Training: K9 Express: Does Fido tend to walk you instead of the other way around? This fast-paced class will help you teach your dog appropriate behaviors through reward-based training methods. The four classes are offered Saturdays from Oct. 8 to Nov. 5. Space is limited. Cost is $65.00

Working Wisely: Learn how to effectively maximize your time each day in this two-hour class on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Work smarter and achieve more by utilizing the techniques taught in this class through fun activities and lecture. Cost is $24.00

Sushi: Running out of ideas in the kitchen? Try something out of the ordinary and learn how to make authentic sushi at home in this one-night class on Monday, Sept. 19. You’ll learn how to roll traditional sushi as well as make California-style sushi. As an added bonus, you get to take your work home with you enjoy. Cost is $39.00
