Rags Used When Staining Wood Can Spontaneously Combust: Lakeville Fire
Lakeville Fire Department responded to 20 calls for service the week of May 7 to May 13.

Fire Prevention Tip
Be careful when staining wood... spontaneous combustion can occur in piles of rags used to apply stains. Here are some safety tips to help prevent accidents from happening: Separate and spread out rags in a well-ventilated area for 24 hours to completely dry; or,
- Wash in a solution of soap and water and hang dry in a well-ventilated area; or,
- Store in an airtight metal can, filled with water and placed away from any combustibles. Oil based stains and paints should not be stored inside the house.
