South Metro Peer Support Group for Parents of Children with ADD / ADHD
Announcement of Peer Support Group for parents of children with ADD / ADHD
Parenting a child with ADD / ADHD brings both unexpected delights and unanticipated challenges. Based on feedback from patients and other members of the community, Park Nicollet Clinic is pleased to offer a peer support group for parents of children with ADD / ADHD, led by trained peer-support facilitator (and mother of two boys with ADHD) Brenna Sonke. You do not have to be a patient of Park Nicollet Clinic to participate, and there is no cost to attend. Meetings are currently held at the Park Nicollet Clinic in Lakeville (18342 Kenrick Ave, Lakeville, MN 55044) from 6PM to 7PM. The next two meeting dates are Wednesday April 15, 2015 and Wednesday May 13, 2015. Please arrive 5-10 minutes ahead of the meeting start time to sign-in and introduce yourself to other parents.
What to expect from the group:
- Group starts at 6PM sharp, with a brief discussion of ground rules for a support group
- Discussion is opened with a sentence stem or question from the facilitator, to which all group members are invited to respond
- Conversation from there is led by the group, with help from the facilitator to keep conversation going
- The session is closed on time at 7PM, with a closing question or sentence stem from teh facility, to which all participants are invited to respond.
- Resources and other material may be made available regarding ADD / ADHD, including the potential for future sessions devoted to educational conversation
