Sports Roundup: Fall Sports Season Begins For Lakeville Teams

Several North, South squads commence their 2011 campaigns, more to follow this week.

A number of teams from and high schools began their fall sports season last week, with more set to start this week.

North Girls Soccer

A kicked off the North girls soccer season in fine manner.

The Panthers spreading out the scoring as Alexa Trakalo, Cam Peterson, Emily Clarkin, Gracia Bonesho, Simone Kolander and Taylor Brownrigg each netted one goal apiece.

North Boys Soccer

The North boys soccer team claimed one win and one tie last week to open its year, defeating Rochester Mayo 1-0 last Thursday before tying next-door Farmington 0-0 on Saturday.

Nickeles Kerkinni netted the Panthers' goal against Mayo, with goalkeeper Connor Revsbeck still perfect on the season with eight saves through two games.

South Volleyball

Ranked fifth in Class AAA, the South volleyball team opened its season with three-straight victories against Northfield, Rochester Century and Visitation.

The Cougars swept the Raiders (25-9, 25-14, 25-19) and Century (25-10, 25-17, 25-12) at home last Thursday and Friday, respectively and the Crusaders (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) in Mendota Heights on Monday. Individual statistics were not available.

South Swimming/Diving

The South girls swimming and diving team defeated Austin 96-81 last Friday. Individual statistics were not available.

South Boys Soccer

After a 4-0 win at Rochester John Marshall last Thursday, the South boys soccer team logged a scoreless tie with Rochester Mayo at home on Saturday to start the season at 1-0-1. Individual statistics were not available.

South Girls Soccer

Back-to-back 2-0 wins over teams from Rochester gave the South girls soccer team a 2-0 record heading into this week.

The Cougars topped John Marshall at home last Thursday, then shutout Century on the road on Saturday. Individual statistics were not available.

South Girls Tennis

The Lakeville South girls tennis team won its season-opening tournament last Wednesday, scoring 19 points to defeat Hastings, Robbinsdale Armstrong and Holy Angels.

Shelby Anderson swept her matches, as did Erika Williams and Morgan Pieri.

However, the South Suburban Conference opener did not treat the South netters as kindly as they fell 7-0 to Eagan last Thursday; the Panthers also lost by a 5-2 score to non-conference Wayzata on Monday.

Results were not available for the North girls tennis or swimming/diving teams.
