Viewfinder: Without Coach, Lakeville North Falls in 3OT Thriller

Farmington heads to Section 1AA final, will face Cougars on Friday.

Without its leader, Lakeville North's girls hockey team lost in triple-overtime to Farmington in Tuesday’s Section 1AA semifinal.

On Monday, Lakeville North head choach during the team's practice, and was seriously injured. He was in fair condition at the Universtiy of Minnesota Medical Center on Tuesday, but the game went on as scheduled.

And Farmington’s Hannah Alexander scored at the 5:33 mark of the third overtime, lifting the Tigers past the Panthers, 5-4, at in Lakeville. Farmington moves on to face Lakeville South on Friday in Owatonna with a place at next week’s state tournament on the line.

Allie Harvey scored twice for North (20-7-0) in the game, while Maggie Sandvig and Emily Yetzer also notched goals. The Panthers had a 4-2 lead with nine minutes remaining in the third, but Alexander and Krystal Baumann each scored for Farmington (20-6-0) to tie the game at 4-4.
