13-Year-Old Killed In Coon Rapids Train Crash

The collision involved a Metro Transit Northstar Commuter Train loaded with approximately 50 passengers on Friday.

COON RAPIDS, MN — The victim in the Dec. 13 crash involving a pedestrian and a Metro Transit Northstar commuter train has been identified as Chason J. Catchings Chivers Jr., 13, of Coon Rapids.

On Friday just before 7 p.m., Coon Rapids and Metro Transit police responded to the scene at 119th Avenue Northwest and the double railroad tracks near Northdale Boulevard Northwest in Coon Rapids.

Police there found a teenager dead. The collision involved a northbound Northstar train loaded with approximately 50 passengers at the time of the crash.

No passengers were injured as a result of the crash, according to a news release.

This incident remains under investigation by the Coon Rapids Police Department, Metro Transit Police Department, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
