Girl Under 10 Dies After Minibike Struck By Vehicle In Brooklyn Center

BROOKLYN CENTER, MN — One girl has died and another is in critical condition after their minibike was struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn Center, according to police.

Brooklyn Center police responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash at 3 p.m. Aug. 27.

Officers learned that two girls under age 10 were riding a minibike eastbound on 63rd Avenue North approaching Brooklyn Drive when they were struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Brooklyn Drive approaching 63rd Avenue North.

Brooklyn Center officers and firefighters performed CPR and other medical aid on the two girls at the scene. Both were taken to North Memorial Health Hospital, where one was later pronounced dead. The other remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the girls stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

Brooklyn Center police requested help from the Minnesota State Patrol for an accident reconstruction and from the Hennepin County Crime Lab.

The crash remains under investigation, and the factors that led to it have not yet been determined.
