📰 News we're reading

1. Under the Lights 2026 (milesplit.com) — Maple Grove runners had a big presence at today's Under the Lights 2026 meet, with strong showings across the boys' and girls' 3000- and 5000-meter races and middle school events. From standout high school times to deep packs of youth competitors, the results highlight just how many local athletes are competing — and how they stacked up against programs from Eden Prairie, Wayzata, Roseville and beyond.

2. Police catch 'career criminal' on the run, wanted for burglaries (wisn.com) — Maple Grove police recently caught a man accused of burglarizing homes in six Milwaukee suburbs after he allegedly broke into a local house and stole more than $10,000 in jewelry. Officers, aided by a K-9, found him hiding near the scene and later identified him as Joseph Levenhagen, who now faces charges in Minnesota before being returned to Wisconsin.

3. Local Entrepreneur Shows How Urban Farming Can Address Inner-city Food Deserts (ccxmedia.org) — Maple Grove gets a quiet shout-out here: urban farmer Todd Western IV's father lives in town and helps connect Midwest farmers while his son tackles food deserts from a north Minneapolis microgreens operation. Western's Freedom Farms supplies local markets and nonprofits, and he's focused on bringing more young farmers of color into agriculture through hands-on training and family involvement.

4. Robbinsdale Fire Marshal Greg Bodin Retires After Nearly 40 Years of Service (ccxmedia.org) — Maple Grove readers may recognize retiring Robbinsdale fire marshal Greg Bodin from his 20 years serving with the Maple Grove Fire Department and teaching safety in local schools. He's stepping down after 38 years in Robbinsdale, where he was recently honored by the city council, and plans to spend more time with family while continuing to volunteer with youth.
