County and state fairs are finished for 2012, but members of the Country Kids 4-H Club of Hennepin County have already launched into a new year of activities that reach far beyond the fairgrounds. These 4-H-ers have been making a difference in their community by serving in a variety of capacities.
Earlier this fall, the Country Kids volunteered at the Autumn Woods Classic at Elm Creek Park Reserve, helping with food service and education about recycling.
In addition, club members regularly clean their adopted highway, Lawndale Lane North from 89th to 101st. They also maintain a flower garden at Lion's Park in Corcoran.

Most recently, clubbers donated supplies and prepared gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child, a mission of Samaritan's Purse, which provides gifts for needy children around the world.
The Country Kids' upcoming agenda also includes purchasing ingredients and making sandwiches for The Sandwich Project Minnesota, a local group that helps feed the hungry. And, clubbers plan to prepare breakfast bags for Ronald McDonald House of Minneapolis, an organization that lodges families of children in the hospital.

"I love serving my community with my friends in 4-H," said 10-year-old Country Kids club member Shaelyse Fehr. "I feel so good when I'm helping others."
The Country Kids 4-H club meets monthly at St. John's Lutheran Church and School in Corcoran, MN. In addition to service projects, the club enjoys regular social and educational activities.
