Anoka Technical College​: Police Say 'Everyone Is Safe'

Authorities had asked that people avoid Anoka Technical College just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

ANOKA, MN — Police in the northwest metro say an "active scene" at Anoka Technical College Thursday afternoon has been resolved and that "everyone is safe." Authorities asked that people avoid the school just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Following numerous reports, officers searched the college for a "suspicious person" who may have been armed. Police were unable to find a suspect and nobody at the school reported being threatened or injured.

The following is a timeline of the incident Thursday:

  • At 11:20 a.m. Anoka police were called to Anoka Tech. A caller reported a suspicious person at the college. Staff at the school initiated a lockdown of the building.
  • At 11:41 a.m. Coon Rapids police were called to Anoka Ramsey Community College on a caller not on site reporting receiving text messages from the caller’s sibling indicating there was a man with a gun hiding in class there.
  • At 11:47 a.m. Anoka police received information from dispatch of a caller reporting that a shooter was at Anoka Tech.
  • At 11:48 a.m. Coon Rapids police received information that security at Anoka Ramsey Community College believed the reported incident at their campus was actually occurring at Anoka Tech. Officers at Anoka Tech secured the building.

No arrests were made.
