Back to School Mudroom Project: Family Shoe Size Chart

For the past 12 years, every Spring and Fall, I haul all the kids into our local Famous Footwear to have their feet measured. I remember the moment I came up with the ingenious idea of keeping track of my childrens' growing feet and their shoe sizes in the notes app on my iphone. I had found I couldn't keep track of whose size was whose and I was always re-checking them. Without noting their sizes in my iphone, I would forget immediately.

This year, I also wanted a chart to reference their shoe sizes in the mudroom, so I started posting a Family Shoe Size Chart on the back door. It was something I could quickly check against during my quarterly shoe clean-outs. That simple chart was super-helpful to me. Last month, I decided I wanted to make the chart a little more personalized with a picture of my kids feet.

I asked our babysitter, Hannah, to take a picture of the kids feet while Phil and I were on date night. (I figured they would cooperate better for her... and, they did.) I wanted one foot from each kid stacked up in order of size like a Christmas Tree.

Then, I started looking online for a cute quote about feet, growing feet, etc. and stumbled on a sweet little quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes, "Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts".  I added that quote to the bottom of the photo with PicMonkey (love PicMonkey and it's totally free!).

Finally, I added it to the top of a chalkboard that I transformed into our Family Shoe Size Chart.
