Being Choked, Woman Stabbed Boyfriend While Holding Baby: Cops
The boyfriend later died at the hospital. Brooklyn Park police said there was a history of domestic violence between the two.

BROOKLYN PARK, MN — Brooklyn Park police say a woman fatally stabbed a man choking her while she held onto her 5-month-old baby. The woman was not arrested, and several detectives are investigating.
The case will be sent to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for charging consideration.
On Sunday just after 3 a.m., Brooklyn Park police officers responded to a report of domestic violence in the 8600 block of Tessman Circle North.

According to police, the woman calling said she was choked by her boyfriend and that she may have stabbed him.
At the scene, officers found 40-year-old Ricardo M. Pates in the driveway with a stab wound in his chest. He was transported to the hospital, where he died.

Pates was the 911 caller's boyfriend, authorities said.
According to police, the woman said was holding her 5-month-old child when Pates began to choke her. She became fearful of going unconscious and reached for a kitchen knife, which she swung at Pates in defense of herself, authorities said.
Pates fled the house wounded, according to police.
There is a known history of domestic violence between the two, and Pates was previously arrested for choking the woman investigators said.
