Brief: Hennepin County Library Collection, Circulation Procedures Change

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved several changes for Hennepin County Libraries, including Maple Grove Library, effective Jan. 1, 2012.

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved several changes to the Hennepin County Library’s collection and circulation procedures at its Tuesday, Nov. 8 meeting.

According to a Hennepin County news release, changes effective Jan. 1, 2012 include:

  • Library users will have a limit of 30 requests and 30 checkouts of physical materials, such as books and DVDs, at one time.  (The current limit is 100 requests and 100 checked-out items.)
  • Checkout of downloadable materials, such as e-books, will be available to Hennepin County residents only, and requests and checkouts limited to 15 per patron.
  • Checkout time for music CDs will be reduced from three weeks to seven days – matching the current loan period for DVDs – and inter-library loans limited to 10 items per user.

By reducing loan times and amounts, Hennepin County says items in the library collection can circulate more quickly, allowing the library to "maintain availability of items while reducing its collections budget by $2 million."
