Crimson Boys Basketball Edge Armstrong With Late Surge
A recap of Maple Grove Senior High's winning basketball game against Armstrong High School Jan. 6.

The boys basketball team remained undefeated in Northwest Suburban Conference play with a 58-51 victory over Armstrong on Friday, Jan 6.
The visiting Crimson struggled early, falling behind 6-0 until Brycen Wojta scored the first of his team-leading 15 points. Maple Grove had several chances to score with good looks at the basket, but often couldn't finish.
The Crimson were sparked by Grant Kaufman who rebounded well and scored a season high 10 points. His three point shot with three minutes to go in the first half, gave Maple Grove its first lead, 23-22. Both teams struggled to get into rhythm in the first half.

At halftime, Armstrong led 30-27 behind the strong inside play by Connor Goetsche. In the second half, with the score 42-36, the leading Falcons went into a zone defense, and the Crimson responded with improved shooting. John Fox and Kaufman hit big three's to give the Crimson a 47-44 lead. Down the stretch, the Crimson were able to make some key stops and converted on the offensive end.
In the final four minutes, Erik Olson scored six straight points to push the lead to 58-51, as the Crimson moved their overall record to 7-2.

The Crimson will host Centennial on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Maple Grove Senior High.
