Demolition of Maple Grove Bridge PostPoned

Due to severe weather and the holiday shopping season, the demolition of a bridge over Interstate 94 in Maple Grove has been delayed.

Concerns about delays during the holiday shopping season and this weekend’s forecast of inclement weather have led the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to delay demolition of the 101st Ave. NE bridge over Interstate 94 in Maple Grove. The demolition would have meant a full closure and detour of the interstate while the bridge was dismantle, and it will still require a full weekend closure early next year, according to a news release.

MnDOT will assess the weather early in January and select a new date for the bridge removal. The bridge is no longer needed because the new alignment of Highway 610 is along the previous alignment of 101st Ave. and the ramps between I-94 and Highway 610 are alongside the old bridge, according to city officials.

MnDOT said they will alert the city once a new date has been selected.
