Jesus Leads Us Home
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1
No fairy tale creations here—this VBS theme is drawn right out of the Bible! The journey begins as Adam and Eve leave the lush oasis and enter a life of sin in the desert. After all, if children don't know we have sin, then they won't know their need for a Savior. From there, children see how Moses led the Israelites on a journey through the desert and Jesus was tempted in the wilderness. The week ends with a joyful celebration of the Resurrection and the heavenly home God has prepared for us. At the center of all teachings is our gracious Savior, Jesus Christ.
As a bonus, each day's memory verse is a petition from the Lord's Prayer. At the end of the week, children will have learned the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples!
Every day of VBS shows children that even though our earthly lives are consumed by the desert of sin, we can be refreshed by forgiveness through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, the promises of God's Word, and the earthly oasis of His Church.
