Four Students in Osseo School District Named National Merit Finalists

Two students from Maple Grove Senior High and one from Osseo and Park Center Senior High received the honor.

students Kathryn Phillips and Andrew Rehayem, student Kaitlin Kasprick, and Park Center Senior High student Jessica Sukharan have advanced to the finalist stage of the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Of the 1.5 million annual entrants (students who take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), only 15,000 nationwide make it to the finalist stage.

Kathryn is interested in studying biology. Andrew would like to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Both have been accepted to several post-secondary institutions and are still weighing their options.

Kaitlin plans to study environmental engineering at Northwestern University.

Jessica is taking a full load of rigorous International Baccalaureate classes while holding student leadership positions. She has applied to Harvard University and Yale University.

In March, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will notify Finalists of scholarship offers.
