Maple Grove Portillo's: Here's Who Voted For (And Against) It

Chicago-based Portillo's will not be coming to Maple Grove. Here's why.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — On Tuesday, the Maple Grove City Council voted 2-3 against Portillo’s, a Chicago-based hot dog restaurant, plans to build a location in the city. The council then directed the city attorney to draft a resolution of denial. In addition to loss of parking and motor vehicle congestion, local lawmakers rejected the plans primarily because they believed the restaurant would not bring enough pedestrians to the The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes.

Here's how the votes played out in the city council:

Voted in favor of Portillo's

  • Mayor Mark Steffenson
  • Council member Phil Leith

Voted against Portillo's

  • Council member Karen Jaeger
  • Council member Kristy Barnett
  • Council member Judy Hanson
