Local Artist Displays Distinctive Moving Art

Brooklyn Park artist David Montague says he isn't planning to build any mobiles as large as Alexander Calder's yet, but "maybe someday."  Montague's home sized mobiles will be on display during evenings at the Town Green Meeting Room, in Maple Grove, from Thursday, Dec. 5th through Saturday, Dec. 7th.

Mobiles are kinetic, abstract sculptures constructed with counterbalanced weighted objects that move freely when suspended, propelled only by air currents.  Calder's largest mobile is a 76 foot long structure in Washington's National Gallery of Art.  Montague's largest so far is a modest 7 feet.

“Mobiles engage the viewer and interact with their environment, many people find gazing at them mesmerizing, even meditative” says Montague.

Montague has been building mobiles since high school, but only recently started to exhibit and sell his work.  His mobiles incorporate interesting materials like stones from the Mississippi River and Lake Superior’s North Shore.  He will also have his wildlife and landscape photography on display.  For more information on this event and David Montague’s work, you can visit his website www.montaguemobiles.com.
