Maple Grove City Council Approves Zachary Lane Parking Restriction

The parking will prohibited in a designed area of Zachary Lane as part of roadway changes.

An upcoming wider left turn lane and roundabout on Zachary Lane will mean a parking restriction on the roadway once work is completed.

The  City Council voted unanimously at the Monday, Dec. 19 to restrict parking on Zachary Lane from County Road 30 to 500 feet north of 101st Avenue North.

Due to federal funds awarded in 2009, according to a staff memo provided to the Council, Zachary Lane will be widened to create a left turn lane from Highway 610 to 101st Avenue in Maple Grove. A roundabout will also be built at 101st Avenue and Zachary Lane.

The city is hoping to get the project started in 2012, but review, plan approval and environmental documentation might move the start date to 2013.

Since federal and state funds are used, the Minnesota Department of Transportation requires a resolution to restrict parking on both sides of the road for the plans to be approved. “This is due to the fact that the roadway is not wide enough to support parking,” Maple Grove Traffic Engineer Marc Culver said in his memo to the Council.

The parking change on the section of Zachary Lane is considered a permanent restriction. Culver told Maple Grove Patch the no parking signs won’t be put up until the project has been completed.
