Maple Grove Fire Blotter: Gas Leaks, Deck Collapse and Dumpster Fires

Reports of gas leaks, deck collapse and dumpster fires were just some of the calls the Maple Grove Fire Department responded from Sept. 5 to Sept. 11.

The following are incidents responded to by the from Sept. 5 to Sept. 11.  

Sept. 5

  • A report of a gas leak on the 14700 block of 80th Avenue North. According to the incident report, there was a report of a natural gas odor. CenterPoint Energy investigated further after nothing initially detected.

  • Two calls reported on the 7300 block of Kirkwood Lane North on a report of an extinguishing system activation due to malfunction.
  • Call to the 9800 block of Hospital Drive on a report of an overpressure rupture of steam or pipe line.

Sept. 7

  • Call to assist on the report of a vehicle fire on southbound Highway 169.
  • Responded to call of a deck collapse on the 8900 block of Vinewood Lane North. According to the incident report, the deck collapse happened at a single-family home when the homeowner was replacing a door to the deck from the house. Homeowner was reported to have suffered minor injuries and sent to hospital for further evaluation. Fire department contacted city building department to respond and investigate.
  • Responded to a report of an unauthorized burning with no permit on the 13400 block of 87th Way North.
  • Responded to a call of suspected smoke on Elm Creek Boulevard and Fountain Drive.
  • Responded to a report of a suspected gas leak on the 14900 block of 95th Avenue North.  According to the incident report, contractors were installing fiber optic line and struck a natural gas line.
  • Responded to a call on the 9900 block of Monticello Lane North which was an authorized controlled burning.
  • Responded to report of dumpster fire on the 9700 block of 85th Avenue North.

  • Responded to 7200 block of Hemlock Lane North on a report of extinguishing system activation due to malfunction.

Sept. 9

  • Responded to call to the 10500 block of Maple Valley Drive on a permit violation.
  • Responded to call of suspect odor/gas smell on the 10200 block of Orleans Lane North.
  • Responded to report of dumpster fire on the 6200 block of Peony Lane North.

Sept. 10

  • Responded to call of suspect odor or smoke on the 9500 block of Black Oaks Lane North and 10700 block of Zopfi Way East.

Sept. 11

  • Responded to report of unauthorized burning report on the 6500 block of Meadowlark Lane North.
  • Responded to call to extract victim from vehicle on Interstate 94.
  • Responded to report of a power line arching causing a power failure the area around 93rd Avenue North and Fernbrook Lane, including signal lights.
  • Responded to mutual aid request on the 11900 block of Champlin Drive in Champlin.
  • Responded to report of carbon monoxide detector activation, on the 12600 block of 74th Avenue North. No carbon monoxide found.
