Maple Grove Hospital Part-Owners Sell To North Memorial Health

MAPLE GROVE, MN — North Memorial Health is set to complete a full takeover of Maple Grove Hospital after announcing an agreement Thursday to buy Fairview Health Services’ 25 percent stake in the facility.

North Memorial Health already owned 75 percent of Maple Grove Hospital.

The sale is due to close before May 2, with the new ownership structure to support North Memorial Health's “vision to create a comprehensive modern medical campus,” officials said in a news release.

No financial terms were disclosed by the two health networks.

Dr. J. Kevin Croston, North Memorial Health’s CEO, said his company and Fairview Health Services have had a “positive, successful” partnership throughout the years.

North Memorial Health’s move to buy out Fairview’s stake in Maple Grove Hospital was a “joint decision that is right for both organizations,” Croston said.

Hayes Batson, Fairview’s chief financial officer, said the deal will allow both health networks to “target investments in places that help us best serve patients.”

“This transaction does not change our steadfast dedication to serving and caring for residents in the northwest metro area,” Batson said.

North Memorial Health said it plans to expand “customer care capacity” at Maple Grove Hospital, particularly emergency, imaging and in-patient services, to meet the needs of the “rapidly growing community.”

Maple Grove Hospital has become one of the largest birthing centers in Minnesota since opening in 2009, with more than 5,000 babies delivered in 2021, the Star Tribune reported.

The hospital regularly receives the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for overall inpatient experience, North Memorial Health said.

North Memorial Health and Fairview Health Services have co-owned Maple Grove Hospital since it opened. The hospital employs more than 1,100, the Star Tribune reports.
