Maple Grove Man Committed Murder-Suicide At Breezy Point Resort: Cops

A 56-year-old man shot and killed his girlfriend and her 29-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself, according to investigators.

BREEZY POINT, MN — A Maple Grove man killed his girlfriend and her daughter before killing himself at a resort in Breezy Point on Tuesday, according to police.

Michael Charles Toner, 56, shot and killed Melanie Michele Jansen, 54, and Hannah Nicole Parmenter, 29, before turning the gun on himself, investigators said. The shooting happened at a unit on the 8000 block of Whitebirch Drive, according to authorities.

Police said a 28-year-old man and his wife had arrived at the resort Tuesday to visit his mother and sister who had been renting a unit there since Sept. 1.

However, the man was unable to contact his family and his knocks at the unit door went unanswered. He looked through a nearby window and — after seeing a man and woman on the floor lying near blood — called 911.

Police arrived and — after forcing their way into the unit — found three bodies. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner released their identities and cause of death:

The investigation is ongoing "but there is no evidence of any threat to the public," the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
