Maple Grove Native Cameranesi Taken In NHL Draft

The Wayzata High School center was selected by Toronto in the fifth round

Maple Grove native Tony Cameranesi was selected on Saturday, June 25 in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft held in St. Paul.

Cameranesi, who played for the Wayzata High School boys hockey team, was taken by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round. He was the 130th overall draft pick.

A 5-foot-9 center, Cameranesi led the Trojans with 54 points during the regular season last year as a senior. The Trojans went 18-5-2 in the regular season.

He added nine points in the Section 6AA tournament, where Wayzata went 2-1 and lost 4-3 to eventual state champion Eden Prairie in the section finals.
