Maple Grove Senior High Vandalized on Last Day of School Year

The outside of the school was vandalized with spray paint and cans of paint Thursday, according to police, who are asking for the public's help in finding the individuals responsible.

Around 3:07 a.m. June 7, Maple Grove Police officers responded to on a report of criminal damage to property to the school building, according to Captain Tracy Stille.

“It was reported that the suspects fled on foot and they were apparently interrupted during the incident by school staff,” Stille wrote in an email to Patch. “Responding officers learned that the school had been vandalized by the use of spray paint and cans of paint.”

The walls by the school’s front entrance door as well as on the walls south of the building were spray painted and had paint thrown on them.

“The suspects had spray painted ‘seniors’ and ‘LGW’ on the south side of the building and ‘12’ on the west and south side of the school building. Several spray cans and gallons of paint were recovered at the scene of the vandalism,” Stille said. 

The K-9 unit from the New Hope Police Department assisted in tracking the suspects who had “fled into the wooded area east of the school building,” he said. No arrests have been made in the incident. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene of the incident with photos and processing the scene.

The declined to comment on the incident, referring Patch to the Maple Grove Police Department since the incident was “under police investigation.”

No details were immediately available on the estimated amount of damages.

Police are asking anyone with information about the vandalism and/or identification of those responsible to contact Detective Jon Wetternach at the at 763-494-6199.
