Moms RUN This Town - A winter update

Here we are - in the middle of winter. The cold and snow descended upon us long ago, and a look to the near future reveals more of the same. So what has the Champlin/Maple Grove Chapter of Moms RUN This Town been doing to beat the winter blues?

We continue to keep an extremely active (private) FB group for our members. We still like to plan mom's night out events (most recently, we had a Holiday party/cookie exchange!), and we are currently meeting once per week for a late evening run at the Maple Grove Sports Dome. As the coldest of the cold passes, we will hopefully begin to meet outdoors once per week, as well, hopefully on the weekends which will be ideal for people starting to ramp up training for spring races.

In addition to these planned group events, some members have met in smaller groups for skiing and snowshoeing! That's right, not only do Moms RUN This Town - we ski it and snowshoe it, too! There has even been some "Woofy Walks" for members to meet and walk their pups.

Now...if you haven't yet heard of MRTT, let me tell you more :-)
MRTT is truly a unique running group. First of all, it's free and open to any mom/woman of any level. We have walkers, beginners, injured runners, pregnant runners, experienced runners, Boston-Qualifiers...and everything in between. One of the best parts of the group is seeing woman of so many different backgrounds come together to support each other and cheer each other on, no matter what an individual's goal is.

Another reason MRTT is so unique is the variety and flexibility of events and schedules. We do regularly scheduled runs at various times and in different locations. If a member wants to initiate and organize a group run at a different time from what is already scheduled, they are encouraged to do so (which is nice, as it allows more opportunities for busy moms to find something that works with their schedule).

MRTT is a national organization that has seen pretty incredible growth, and that alone speaks volumes. Started by a mom in Georgia as just one chapter, 3 years ago, it is now approaching 1,000 chapters nationwide and in Canada. The Champlin/Maple Grove Chapter currently has 217 members. (There are also several other local chapters, such as Otsego/Elk River/Rogers, Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Savage/Burnville, Chaska/Waconia, St. Louis Park/Golden Valley, etc).

If you are looking to find running (or walking) buddies, training partners, or simply support and encouragement or just advice on how to get started, consider checking us out. Many members have made amazing friendships (even outside of running) through the group and found priceless support in their fellow members. It is FREE so you have nothing to lose.  All you need to do is "Request to join" our private, closed Facebook Group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/champlinmaplegrove/

We can't wait to welcome you to our inspirational group of women!
