Moms RUN This Town - Winter update and looking ahead
See what the ultimate, FREE running group for women has been up to - and what we have planned for the year ahead!
This winter, the Champlin/Maple Grove chapter of Moms RUN This Town has stayed plenty active. We have twice-weekly evening group runs at the Maple Grove Sports Dome as well as some occasional, casual weekend outdoor runs when weather has allowed. In December, we had our second annual holiday party which is always a fantastic time! We’ve had a couple of happy hour events, an informal running and training information workshop, and we even had a group participate in the Polar Plunge to raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics - MN.
We have a lot to look forward to for this spring and summer, with a great schedule of runs and fitness activities planned and plenty of special events to come as well. Our schedule may include things like:
- Early bird weekday runs - Starting at 5 am sharp for those who want to get a few miles in before heading off to work
- Weekend morning runs - Often we end up with a couple of groups/start times, one around 5:30 or 6:00a, and another at 7:00 or 8:00a. Many members use this as their chance to get in long runs for marathon or half marathon training; it makes the miles go by faster when you’re doing it with others!
- Thursday evening runs - Historically our most popular and well-attended group run/walk...you’re sure to find someone who matches your pace, from walkers to speedy runners and everything in between.
- Hump Day Hills - A kick-butt hill work out, with a nice easy warm up and cool down walk or jog. In between hill sets, we incorporate some additional stuff such as planks, crunches or push-ups.
- Beginner groups - We try to schedule some runs specifically intended for beginners - those who are just starting out with running, maybe doing C25K, or even just want to go for a good walk.
- Additional unscheduled runs - Members are always welcome to initiate group runs that work with their schedule or to post looking for a running buddy near them. With over 500 members, there is a great chance that you will find somebody to run with
- Girl’s Night Out - We try to do this periodically and it’s always quite popular!
- Beginner’s breakfast - These are occasionally scheduled and open for anyone but especially new members or those who haven’t yet been active in the group but would like to start.
- Summer Virtual - An awesome event done through MRTT national, always with a fun theme and optional medals & swag. You can also submit your time online to be entered for great prizes.
- Water stops and cheering sections - Don’t want to run a race, but still want to participate? We sometimes do water stops or have groups of members who go to races together just to cheer on their fellow members.
- Races - We often arrange car pools, meet ups, and photo-ops at popular local races. We especially love to show off just who RUNS this town at the Maple Grove Esprit De She in September!
So what are you waiting for? After all, we’re FREE. If you’re a local woman (because non-moms are welcome to join, too) and you enjoy running or you’d like to try to start running, check us out! All you need to do to become a member is join our private, closed Facebook Group at www.facebook.com/groups/champlinmaplegrove
