New Apartment Community Proposed in Maple Grove
A new apartment community could be located near Arbor Lake.

A new apartment community called Skye at Arbor Lakes could be moving into Maple Grove. The city’s planning commission has given its go-ahead for two, four-story luxury apartment buildings, which would sit just north of the Arbor Lakes Senior Housing facility.
If approved by the City Council, the apartment buildings would offer 467 apartments, ranging in price from $1,050 to $2,100. The construction would happen in phases, starting with about 250 apartments. One-, two- and three-bedroom apartments would be available.
A clubhouse, pool, dog park, pavilion and parking ramp will also be built on the property. Two small retail areas have also been suggested on each end of the development. According to city documents, the complex would be like the City Walk project in Woodbury.

“I think it’s a good idea,” Resident Joyce Johnson said. “Maple Grove is a thriving community and I have several friends that would like to live in the area but aren’t ready to buy a home, so this would be great for them.”
Another resident, Jeremy Wood, isn’t sure the city or the economy is ready for an apartment building. “I know Maple Grove is a young city and could probably use some more rental properties in the future, but is now the right time?”

Wood worries the apartments would be built and then sit empty, however, the planning commission did not voice that concern at their Monday night meeting.
“Maple Grove staff is happy with this project,” Maple Grove Community Development Director Dick Edwards said at the meeting. “It’s a good project and I think it will be a good addition to the city.”
The planning commission did approve the suggested development. The decision is now in the hands of the city council. If approved, construction could begin in spring.
