The one thing that has drastically improved my own skills as a trainer and instructor is the seismic shift in my goals. For many years I strived to develop horses for competition. I learned how to make average horses beautiful and expressive. Horses and their owners had literally stacks of ribbons, plaques, coolers, trophies... I felt completely empty. The thing that once gave me the most enjoyment became a job. I should have been ecstatic over these awards that my horses earned. I wasn't. I felt bored. Stifled. Then a horse from my past fell back into my life. This horse stretched my wings more in one year, than all of the horses I have worked with put together. Our horses are our mirrors and oh..... did I begin learning about myself. ~Until next time~
