The last two days have been productive for me. After using up plenty of writing material last week I've been observant of some of the games I'm cycling through for new ideas and I think I have some. It's probably time for a good editorial instead of just asking community questions. There's always more push back from an ed, but they are more challenging of course.
I beat Binary Domain yesterday and really enjoyed it. I'm not even sure how it did in the reviews but I expect having been a Japanese game it wasn't appreciated much. The fact is it does some new things for a shooter and has a story that manages to become unpredictable, something rare in gaming stories. That one stays in the collection.
Today I finished Metro: Last Light. It was certainly one of the most entertaining FPS titles of the generation. Atmospheric, intense, and outside the mainstream, the whole project oozes individuality. I'd put it in my personal top 5 FPS of the generation. It's not as great as Bioshock but the two are so different it's almost apples and oranges. Keeping that one as well.
I bought Aliens: Colonial Marines from PSN for $9. That one got bad reviews but Aliens is nostalgic for me and if I know what to expect I'm sure I can still have fun with it. Not sure I want to jump into another FPS straight away though. I still haven't finished Tales of Xillia.
In any case I'll probably do a Cult Gamer feature on Binary Domain as soon as I can.
