Spire Federal Credit Union Receives Plan Approval for New Building

The company received PUD concept and development stage plan approval from City Council to build in Maple Grove.

Businesses on Blackoaks Lane North in northern Maple Grove will soon be getting a new neighbor – Spire Federal Credit Union.

At the Dec. 5 Maple Grove City Council meeting, the PUD concept and development stage plan was approved for the a new building.

Plans are in place for the new 5,000 square foot Spire Federal Credit Union to be built at 9850 Blackoaks Lane North, along with an additional 1,800 square feet for a retail tenant addition, according to a memo provided to the City Council.

“The site was originally proposed as a gas station and we have seen a number of different proposals for the site, including another credit union proposal that was almost identical to this one,” Community Development Director Dick Edwards said in his memo to the Council.

There were several conditions of the approval, which were outlined in a Nov. 14, 2011 city memo, including the 96th Avenue access shown on the plans removed and the entrance shifted slightly to the north on Blackoaks Lane to “avoid (as best as possible) conflicts with the exit from the adjacent .”

Patch was unable to determine at this time whether the new Spire Federal Credit Union on Blackoaks Lane North would replace the current Spire facility at 13619 Grove Drive. Spire has 11 locations in Minnesota.
