Vicksburg Lane Street Reconstruction Project Could Start in July

The Maple Grove City Council approved the street reconstruction project and plans for Vicksburg Lane, which includes bituminous pavement resurfacing.

An estimated $1 million street reconstruction project in southern Maple Grove has been added to the list of roads getting a face-lift around the community.

The approved the Vicksburg Lane street reconstruction project at its meeting Monday, June 6 as part of the consent agenda. The action, along with approving the project’s plans, allows the city to take the next step to advertise for bids for the project.

The Vicksburg Lane street reconstruction project, according to a memo presented to the City Council by Assistant City Engineer Terry Muller, is part of the city’s Street Rehabilitation Program. The project entails resurfacing the bituminous pavement on Vicksburg Lane, starting at Bass Lake Road extending to the border of Plymouth. Concrete curb and gutters along the roadway will be repaired as needed.

The city’s Street Reconstruction Program is funding the estimated $1,012,500 cost for the project. It is anticipated the City Council will consider and award the bid for the project at its Monday, July 18 meeting.

The Vicksburg Lane street reconstruction project is tentatively scheduled to begin in July or August 2011.

For the sanitary sewer replacement portion of the project, the city already asked for bids and the City Council approved the lowest bid of $45,200 at the Monday, June 6 meeting.

“The project includes replacing approximately 150 feet of 8 inch sanitary sewer and the installation of two manholes located on either side of Vicksburg,” Muller said in his memo to the Council. “The project will require the closing of Elm Road between Upland Lane and Vicksburg Lane for approximately one week.”

The closure, he said, is expected to take place at the end of June 2011 or early July 2011.
