Viewfinder: Crimson Pepfest Marks Upcoming End of School Year

Maple Grove Senior High pepfest recognizes graduating class of 2011, spring sports and student achievements.

More than a thousand students gathered in the gym Friday, May 20 for one last pepfest of the 2010-2011 school year. The school’s 12th grade students wore black to signify their upcoming graduation, 11th graders wore maroon and 1oth graders moved from the white shirts to gold.

In addition to recognizing the 2011 graduating seniors, spring sports and student achievements, the 2010-2011 Maple Grove Senior High Crimson mascot “Leafy” (Grant Nerison) made his last appearance and Chris Slater was named the 2011-2012 “Leafy.”

The end of year celebration recognized achievenments at the school, such a both  basketball teams going to state, the boys hockey winning the NWSC for the first time, boys swimming winning the NWSC, section and finishing sixth in state, the dance team winning the NWSC, Jazz section and state, baseball winning the NWSC and number one ranking in the state as well as boys lacrosse winning the NWSC and seventh place ranking in state. Students Zach Gawboy, Jonny Dill, Frank Kramer and Dan Rekuski were recognized for winning the section wrestling title and Joey Neumann going to state wrestling individuals. Kelly Gu won the section speech in original oratory and went to the state speech contest.
