Westboro Baptist Plans Demonstration At Maple Grove School

School officials are aware of the planned Westboro Baptist Church protest and are encouraging students not to engage with the group.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — The Westboro Baptist Church, a Kansas-based group known for utilizing current events to spread extreme anti-LGBT views, has two demonstrations planned in Maple Grove Wednesday, including one at Maple Grove Senior High School. The other protest will occur at the University of Minnesota Maple Grove Health Clinic.

In its announcement, the church said it plans to bring a "gospel of peace" to Maple Grove students. School officials are aware of the planned protest and are encouraging students and community members not to engage with the group.

"Osseo Area Schools believes that everyone has equal intrinsic value," school official Barbra Olson told KSTP. "Our goal is for each student to feel welcomed, respected and valued every single day."
