Pay cut during Coronavirus Pandemic

In April, Gov. Tim Walz signed Executive Order 20-36, implementing salary cuts for him and other top officials. The governor, chief of staff, and the cabinet agency commissioners will take a 10 percent salary cut for the remainder of the year.

Before the pay cuts, Walz was making an annual salary of $127,639.

The order comes on the heels of his direction to freeze hiring for executive branch positions, a measure that does not require an executive order. Additionally, on April 13, Minnesota Management and Budget instituted a hiring freeze on all executive branch positions.
