Welcome to the Rendezvous.

For the month follow me here at the Rendezvous to follow maple syrup production in Minnesota. Then throughout the summer for all things green.

Welcome to the rendezvous.

This is an electronic version of folks gathering to experience the seasonal wonders of the outdoors. Much as the trappers of yesterday gathered once a year you can gather as often as you like to follow nature as it unfolds throughout the seasons. You can read about the goings on of nature’s promises and teachings as each morning of your life dawns.

Right now in Minnesota is the beginning of the maple syrup season. You can follow me for the next month on a daily basis of not only pure maple syrup production but of the beginnings of spring. How the unfolding of a season occurs from day to day.

I have had one foot in the dirt since I could crawl, knowing how to produce food and where it comes from. I will talk about how to process food from its raw state to something that can nourish your family. As a professional horticulturist I began gardening to eat at seven years old. I have over the years raised vegetable gardens as well as been part of a rose breeding program that produced over 50,000 crosses a year.

I am from the old school when conservation was practiced daily when afield. Not a flag to state your position. Yes that means holding a match in your fingers until cold before discarding it, or clearing the brush away from a tree before felling it with an ax. Not fearing the dark but embracing it as the relaxing end of a day.

In the next month I will provide photos and short stories of my daily activities in the maple syrup world. Follow along this path of sweet the sweet beginnings of the New Year.

Find a escape from politics, high gas prices, the lack of sleep and just the daily chores you have to deal with here at the rendezvous.
